Finding a deal is always a good thing. But hearing the word free attached to a deal makes it even better. That's why I was ecstatic when perusing Metromix to find free and fitness written in the same sentence.
First--and not to discredit Metromix at all--I don't notice many fitness features in the section unless it's a yoga class or an activity at a major Chicago landmark, like last summer's fitness in the park that brought exercise to Millennium Park on weekend mornings. Second--two fitness perks in one story that's spilling the beans for bar and restaurant events to hit up during February. How did I get so lucky to find something of interest in between imbibing with Alpana Singh and a Westminster Kennel Club dog show gathering?
The first of the free fitness events in Chicago runs from now through Monday at Chicago Park District facilities across the city. Take your pick of 158 park district locations and enjoy free use and classes. Perfect for anyone who needs to rectify a lazy January or is planning to venture outside this weekend when the weather promises to warm up. Or one tip I've given to friends: Take advantage of the park district pools, especially if you have your sites set on triathlon when the ground thaws.
The other event caught my interest since it combines free, food and fitness--I think I mentioned it another time, but fun runs with the promise of pizza or bagels afterward always made it onto my weekly calendar. And the Chocolate and Yoga Valentine's Progressive on Feburary 12 is one exception to my lack of yoga participation that I just might have to break. Come on, how can you pass up a 40-minute yoga session followed by wine and chocolate truffles? If you snagged a spot already, the evening starts at Yoga Now Chicago at 5:45 p.m. and ends feasting on vegan truffles at nearby Greenheart. Don't despair, due to the popularity of the 5:45 yoga, Yoga Now is offering another session at 7:30 p.m., so one group can get their sugar rush first. Sweetheart or not, this is one Valentine treat not to miss. But be sure to RSVP. Photo grabbed from ExpertVillage.com at Flickr. Posted by Kate
Hi, Kate! Thanks for the note! I'm so excited that we're both going to be doing the same thing, and we definitely have to get together when I'm back in Chicago. I'm planning on going to NPTI for personal training -- the program starts in April, so I'm going to an open house on Feb. 28. You should check it out!http://www.nationalpersonaltraininginstitute.com/locations/school_xxx.asp?School_Id=60611
