
One holiday activity I'm not giving up, even when work and training get crazy (as they inevitably will), is playing with my Wii. My husband got Guitar Hero for Christmas and we've been playing it almost every day ever since. And folks, it's a workout. For starters, you're holding a guitar (working the shoulders and biceps) and strumming constantly (hello, forearms!). Plus, you stand the whole time you're playing. According to James Levine, Ph.D., a researcher at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, you burn up to 100 more calories an hour when you do activities standing instead of sitting.
